SHANGHAI'S two airports are expected to serve a total of 84 million tourists and 5 million tons of cargo during the 2010 Expo, delegates of the Shanghai CPPCC learned from the Shanghai Air Traffic Management Bureau during today's inspection.

The Shanghai Airport Authority expects daily peak passenger flow will reach 280,000 during the Expo. The two airports can currently handle a maximum of 260,000 passengers per day. The peak passenger flow is a challenge but can be handled, the authority said.

Delegates said roads and highways in Pudong New Area need to be able to meet increasing demand as more people come to and from Pudong International Airport.

Terminal 1 at the airport will be upgraded, the authority said.
