US President George W. Bush will visit South Korea August 5-6, the White House said yesterday.
The White House made the announcement when there have been violent protests in Seoul over a US-South Korean beef deal.
Bush had been expected to visit South Korea next week when he visits Japan for the G-8 summit. However, that trip was postponed due to strong protests in the country.
The United States called on Seoul to fully open its market to US beef, while South Korean officials said they were concerned about the product safety after receiving shipments containing banned material.
