-- Adverstisement --

POLICE in the Pudong New Area have rounded up a gang responsible for the theft of laptop hard drives worth about 100,000 yuan (US$14,700).

Early last month, a logistics company in Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone reported that 280 laptop hard drives had been stolen.

Police said the large number of missing drives was the key to the case as the thieves would want to sell them all quickly.

One advertisement offering computer drives on taobao.com - a popular e-business platform - caught police attention on June 12.

Officers posed as customers and bought three drives online and sent them to the manufacturer for appraisal. The three were part of the missing batch.

Police grabbed two men surnamed Le and Xu, and soon afterwards another two named Zhang and Shi along with some of the drives.
