A YELLOW rainstorm alert for the city was raised at 2pm today by the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
A yellow alert is the third highest in the four-level system. A blue alert, the lowest level, was raised at noon.
The bureau said about 50 millimeters of rain will fall between 2pm and 8pm.
About 50 millimeters of rain had already fallen in northern Shanghai as of 2pm, forecasters said.
Showers and a possible thunderstorm are forecast for tomorrow.
Weather forecasters said it will be humid this weekend with a maximum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius.
