Tropical storm Fengshen lands in Shenzhen

A woman walks past an uprooted tree in Hong Kong today. The Hong Kong weather authority issued a red alert at 6am as tropical storm Fengshen began to lash the southeastern coast of China. All schools and some roads have been closed in Hong Kong due to the storm.

TROPICAL storm Fengshen landed in the southeastern coast of China early today, bringing about heavy rain and strong winds.

The storm made the landfall in the coastal area of Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, at 5:30am with winds of up to 83 kilometers per hour, according to the provincial meteorological station.

Heavy rain and strong gales have already hit central and southern parts of the province, it said.

The station said the storm would continue to move north and lose strength.
