Official sacked over alleged role in exam scam

A SHANDONG Province government official allegedly involved in a college entrance exam scandal has been relieved of his official post, Xinhuanet.com reported.

Police in Tianshui, Gansu Province, are still hunting for Huo Jigang, 43, who allegedly organized the exam scam in which substitute students were used. He asked his wife, Zhang Yuru, and Wei Chengjia, a chemistry teacher at No. 1 Middle School, in Yanggu County to make contact with Jiang Xin, a teacher at No. 6 Middle School in Tianshui, the report said.

Together, they allegedly organized 16 Senior 2 students at No. 1 Middle School to take the National College Entrance Examination for other pupils in Tianshui.

The suspects were accused of obtaining ID cards and registered permanent residence certificates in Tianshui with fake ID cards, registered permanent residence certificates and recommendation letters through illegal channels, the report said.

These documents enabled the substitute students to sign up for the National College Entrance Examination at the No. 3 Vocational School and No. 6 Middle School in Tianshui, the report said.

When everything was prepared, Wei alleged took the 16 exam substitutes from Shandong to Tianshui, the report said.

Zhang and Wei have been arrested in Gansu. Wei has also been sacked from his post and expelled from the Party, the report said.
