THE Shanghai government is planning to standardize the use of vehicles for officials by posting information online and allowing the public to provide more supervision, the Shanghai Morning Post reported today.
The report said the government will publish the license plate numbers and car models of government vehicles along with maintenance costs and mileage.
The government also announced it would stop approving applications for additional vehicles for official duties, the newspaper said.
Last year, the government launched a campaign against the improper use of government vehicles. A total of 179 vehicles were purchased improperly, meaning departments either went over budget on purchase prices or the number of cars bought. Another 413 vehicles were said to have been borrowed from other departments against regulations.
