A SECTION of famous snack street Wujiang Road in Jing'an District will reopen on June 27 following two years of renovations, Oriental Morning Post reported today.

The newly improved street will feature 15,000 square meters of shops and stalls with tasty treats such as dumplings and chicken wings as well as clothes and accessories. More than 70 percent of the shops are targeting young office workers, according to the district economic and trade commission.

The road will also boast a 200-meter-long sightseeing terrace, the report said.

Wujiang Road is just south of Nanjing Road. It gained its fame in September 2000, several months after Shimen No. 1 Road Station, which has since been renamed Nanjing Road West Station, on Line 2 opened.

Renovations began in March 2005 and soon planners decided to extend the street westward to Maoming Road N. An up market shopping mall has been built between Taixing Road and Maoming Road N.

Officials of the district economic and trade commission said they would keep close watch on customer response in order to make timely adjustments to the arrangement of the street.

"We want to retain the popularity of the street and keep its unique charm," the officials told the newspaper.
