A MAN was killed yesterday in Shanghai when the roof of an old home collapsed near Yuyuan Garden in Huangpu District, according to Eastday.com.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident, but neighbors said the dilapidated home had been in such bad repair that it could not handle the heavy rain.
The victim was said to be about 30 years old and from Yangzhou of Jiangsu Province. He had rented the one-story house on Houjia Road for years. He was sleeping when the roof caved in on top of him about 5pm, the report said.
Police and firemen confirmed the man was dead after they pulled him out of the debris. Medical staff said he was struck in the head by a broken beam, which killed him instantly.
