Crackdown on cargo vehicles

TRAFFIC police yesterday began city-wide inspections to check on safety measures installed on cargo vehicles.

Trucks and cargo trailers should have reflective markers and have safety equipment on the side and rear of vehicles according to traffic law.

Traffic police will look at the condition of safety equipment. Heavy cargo vehicles can pose a major risk.

A container fell from an out-of-control trailer on an overhead road in Baoshan District on May 6 and three people on the ground were struck and killed by the container. The driver was detained by the police.

Traffic police are also engaged in a three-month crackdown on the dangerous operation of carriers of dangerous chemicals, which started early this month.
