POLICE yesterday detained a man suspected setting off an explosion that killed one and injured 35 in the eastern province of Zhejiang.
Ren Wenchuang, 20, from central Henan Province, allegedly ignited the blast at a plaza in Yiwu City at 8:47pm on Wednesday, where a group of local residents and migrant workers were dancing.
Ren confessed after he was arrested at Zhengjiawu Railway station in neighboring Pujiang County at 10am yesterday, police said.
Zhejiang's top officials had ordered more than 150 police and experts to investigate the case. The investigation was facilitated by the public, who offered more than 100 important clues, police said.
All the injured, including two seriously wounded, were in stable condition yesterday, local officials said.
Police did not say what Ren allegedly used to cause the blast, nor did they speculate about his motives.
