CHINA has allocated 30 billion yuan (US$4.3 billion) from its reconstruction funds to subsidize farmers whose homes were damaged and destroyed in the earthquake.

Each affected household will get up to 10,000 yuan to rebuild.

The hardest-hit Sichuan Province will eventually get up to 35 billion yuan. The subsidies will be handled by the Finance and Civil Affairs ministries, with higher subsidies to go to hard-hit areas and low-income families.
