RAIN fell across the city yesterday, but despite continuous downpours the flooding that characterized the start of the plum rain season on Saturday was not repeated.
Shanghai will have cloudy weather today and tomorrow, but more rain is predicted for late Friday, the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said.
Yesterday the urban area experienced constant rain. Heavier rainstorms hit the suburban areas, especially in the south. The Yangshan Deep-Water Port had the most rainfall, of 78 millimeters, followed by Jinshan, Fengxian and Songjiang districts, said Zhu Jiadong, a forecaster with the bureau.
The rain brought down the temperature. Yesterday the maximum was 22.5 degrees Celsius.
"A stationary front is expected to move south, thus the city will have cloudy to overcast weather," Zhu said.
The front will move back north from Friday, causing more rain. And thunderstorms may also hit from across the weekend. The bureau reminded people to be aware of possible lightning damage.
For the next few days the temperature is expected to rise to 27 degrees, with the lows around 21 degrees.
