THE Beijing subway will on Monday bid farewell to the familiar paper tickets that have been in use for 38 years.
A new automatic fare collection system would be put into operation in all subway stations in the capital city.

Jia Peng, a Beijing Subway Company official, said the new system would help collect information on how many people entered and exited the subways at different times of a day, which will lead to better efficiencies. The reusable tickets will also contribute to environment protection.
