A MIGRANT worker surnamed Xie has been detained by Shanghai railway police for allegedly carrying 5 kilograms of diesel onboard a train.
The diesel was found during a police security check at Shanghai Railway Station last Thursday. Xie, from Anhui Province, allegedly tried to take the fuel onto the train to his hometown. Xie allegedly told police that he got the diesel from the company he was working for in the city. He told officers that he was going to use the fuel for a farm machine.
Another migrant, surnamed Yang, from Anhui Province has also been detained by police for allegedly taking paint on board a train.
Yang hid 5 kilograms of paint in his luggage and tried to board a train back home. He was seized by railway officers during the security check. The paint was from a construction site where Yang was working. He tried to take it back to paint the doors and windows of his house, officers said.
Railway police yesterday warned the public not to take the dangerous goods on trains. Local railway police have found 710 cases of travelers carrying hazardous goods at the city's railway stations between May 26 and June 1. A total of 3,882 dangerous goods have been intercepted during the period.
The dangerous goods include paint, flammable gases and explosive materials.
Railway authorities have strengthened safety checks at railway stations recently and installed scanners at Shanghai Railway Station and Shanghai South Railway Station.
