JUMEIRAH, a hospitality group from the United Arab Emirates which runs the Burj Al Arab in Dubai, unveiled its official Chinese brand name "Zun Ya" in Shanghai yesterday. A member of Dubai Holding, the company is set to open the 338-room Jumeirah HanTang Xintiandi in the city in August, the group's first hotel in China and flagship property in the Asia Pacific region. "Our Chinese name is an important part of building the Jumeirah brand in China and reflects our deep commitment to the Chinese market," Serge Zaalof, senior vice president of Jumeirah Group, Asia Pacific, said yesterday in Shanghai during its name-launch ceremony. In Chinese, "Zun" signifies a beautifully crafted chalice filled with vintage wine which is usually associated with honor, and "Ya" denotes elegance, unique and upscale. Jumeirah, which was founded in 1997, said it plans to boost its China portfolio to five by 2011.
