CONTINUOUS snowfall in Shanghai caused 37 houses to collapse between 4pm yesterday and 10am today and more than 20 people were rescued, Eastday.com reported today. The accidents included a roof cave-in at Xingaoyang Wet Market around 9:55am today on the crossroads of Gaoyang Road and Tangshan Road in Hongkou District, the report said. Six people were injured, but all are now in stable condition, the report added. The market was transformed from an old factory house and has been used for more than 15 years, the report said. Fire departments have so far dispatched 52 repair trucks and 468 workers. More than 20 people were rescued, the report said. The city weather bureau upgraded its road-freeze alert from yesterday's yellow to orange, the second-highest level, at 8:07am today. Snowfalls are expected to reach a range of two to three centimeters today. A high of three degrees Celsius and a low of zero were forecast.
