THE three boys who witnessed their nine-year-old fellow being eaten by crocodiles on Friday in South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region are receiving psychological treatment because they are too terrified to sleep.

The kids, all classmates of the victim surnamed Liu, are second-grade students at the Xiantian Primary School in Yinhai District in Beihai City.

They were said to have been unable to speak when police found them beside a crocodile pool in a park where they had watched Liu being eaten alive by about 10 crocodiles, said Xinhua news agency.

One of the kids, surnamed Pang, said he cannot sleep well at night. Pang is said to have jumped into the pool with Liu to look for crocodile eggs but luckily escaped the reptiles' attack.

The other two kids also have difficulties sleeping several days after the tragedy, the report said, citing the parents.

Doctors in Beihai's People Hospital where the kids are being treated suggested that parents not mention the incident to their children. Teachers also needed to be careful when giving safety lectures at school not to talk about the tragedy in front of the survivors, the report said.

The four kids climbed over the park's gate and sneaked into the pool where crocodile shows were formerly staged.

The boys shot at the crocodiles with slingshots and poked them with wooden sticks. It was when the boys began to search for crocodile eggs in the grass near the pool that one of the crocodiles suddenly seized Liu in its jaws and dragged him into the water.

Body parts belonging to Liu were later found in the stomach of one of crocodiles which was shot dead on Saturday night.
