Established in 1865 during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), Jiangnan Shipyard was the result of the "Self-Strengthening Movement" initiated by the necessity for China to gain expertise in making Western weaponry and heavy machinery.

This is a replica of the country's earliest Armstrong breech-loading steel cannon made by Jiangnan Shipyard in 1888 and was used as a major weapon to help the country defend against invasion.


The Cargo vessel Minduo was the first fully welded ship built in China. The change from the old rivet technique marked a huge step forward for China's shipbuilding industry.

This is a replica of a submarine control room, which provides interactive activities for visitors and marine fans.

Models of Jiangnan's future blueprints of Changxing Island are exhibited. In order to make way for World Expo 2010, Jiangnan Shipyard moved its factories to Changxing Island in 2005.
