A Nose for Business“Rebtel is amazing,” said Li Xiao, founder of an internet company in Emeryville, which like many of today’s innovative companies, has operations spread all over the globe, including offices in Shanghai and London.
Li Xiao, who switched her company to Rebtel about a year ago estimates that she was spending several thousand dollars on international calling per month before Rebtel, and now that number is under $100.
“The cost savings is huge,” said Li Xiao, who found Skype too tedious and impractical, because it meant her teams had to place all calls from their computers, which wasn’t how the office operated. “Now, they have the freedom to make cheap or free international calls from their mobile phones.”
In fact, Rebtel’s service can be used with any mobile phone without modification or software downloads. It does not require any changes to existing calling plans. And, there is no charge to set up a Rebtel account. No monthly fees, no connection fees and no hidden costs.
Like Li Xiao, Li Chu is now using Rebtel for business, too, in his new job as a sales manager for a video game publisher with offices in Australia, South Africa, and Austria.
“As a testament to what Rebtel can do for your company, I made a 28 minute call to Australia this morning from my mobile phone; closed a deal worth $145,000, and it cost me a whopping 56 cents,” said Li Chu. “The coffee I drank while closing the deal cost more.”

Shanghai Daily reporters tested Rebtel services for calling from Shanghai to the UK in Europe. After an initial registration process we found the calls provided by Rebtel to be well worth the effort.
Li Chu, a 33-year-old living in San Francisco, was being charged $1.49 per minute by Verizon to stay in touch with his friends and family in Hong Kong. When he got sick of paying hundreds of dollars each month in mobile phone bills, Li Chu decided to try Rebtel.

“Calling cards are crap. All I would get is 20 minutes and then the card was out of money.” For the last six years, designer Katrin Romare, founders of Alice&Sens has divided her time between her two homes in Shanghai and Stockholm, Sweden, and knew there had to be a better way to call international calls.
