Living with wild animals at new Jamala Wildlife Lodge in Australia

GUESTS wake up to lions at their bedside, tigers outside the lounge room and can eyeball bears while sitting in the bath but this retreat is closer to the bear pit of Parliament than the wilds of the African savanna.

The Jamala Wildlife Lodge at the National Zoo and Aquarium in Canberra promises guests an intimate experience with African animals, The Daily Telegraph reported.

The lodge, which opened its doors last week, offers guests the opportunity to stay within centimetres of these impressive animals in specially designed accommodation that blends into the animals’ habitat, according to the report.

Owner Richard Tindale said the unique property was designed to make guests feel like they were immersed in nature.

Mr Tindale opened the zoo 15 years ago with the idea of educating the public on the need to conserve these precious animals, the report said.

He said this latest project continued that objective.
