Snowstorm batters US midsection

Westar Energy crews begin work on snow covered power lines in Lawrence, Kansas, as the second major snowstorm in a week battered the US midsection yesterday, dropping more than 15 centimeters of snow across Missouri and Kansas. The snowstorm cut power to thousands. Gusting winds blew drifts more than 61 centimeters high and created treacherous driving conditions for those who dared the morning commute.
