Kuchar jumps to top of leaderboard

MATT Kuchar grabbed a one-shot lead over Sergio Garcia at the Northern Trust Open on Thursday in Los Angeles, California.

Kuchar opened with three straight birdies and finished with back-to-back birdies at Riviera for a 7-under 64. Brandt Jobe was in third after shooting a 66. Fred Couples, a two-time winner of this event, had a 68 and was in a group that included Lee Westwood.
