A passing passenger bus was entrapped after a road surface near an under-construction Metro stop in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu Province, suddenly collapsed this morning, the provincial media reported.

Passengers onboard were timely evacuated and none were injured.

The accident took place at Taiping Road S and Zhongshan Road E and part of the nearby streets were closed after the accident.

Nanjing Metro authority said the land subsidence took place near the foundation pit being constructed nearby for Metro Line 3's Daxinggong Station.

An initial investigation showed flow of quicksand underground could have triggered the accident, Nanjing Metro authority said. Sand was poured back to even the underground structure in emergency measures, authority said.

Metro traffic on nearby lines in service was not disrupted.
