SIX batches of thermal underwear sold at some big shopping malls like Shanghai Golden Eagle Square and Shanghai No.1 Department Store had problems regarding fiber content, the city's quality watchdog said yesterday.

They were produced by companies in Shanghai and the provinces of Zhejiang and Guangdong.

Some substandard products had fiber contents less than what was listed on their labels while others didn't keep people warm enough, the Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau said.

Some 85 batches of underwear made by 38 companies were checked.

Officials reminded consumers to buy knitted underwear with a soft feel and wash it before wearing to remove any residue left over from the production process.
