Mother falls to death while reaching baby

A young mother fell to her death while trying to break into her own apartment to rescue her 2-year-old son, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.

The tragedy happened yesterday afternoon in a six-story apartment building in the city's suburban Fengxian District. The toddler was playing with his mother in their third-floor apartment when he accidentally locked himself in the bedroom.

The boy started to cry and made his mother extremely anxious. She decided to climb from the bathroom window into the bedroom balcony to reach her son. But she slipped from the window ledge and fell three floors to her death.

The boy's grandmother witnessed the fall and called the police. She then pushed and pulled the bedroom door forcefully until the latch broke. The child was unharmed but his mother died later in the hospital.
