SKINNED birds were among 200 wild birds seized in a wet market yesterday by Jinshan District police, today's Shanghai Morning Post reported.

Wildlife activists found the wild birds in a market in Zhujing Town yesterday morning and reported to police and wildlife protection department.

Law enforcement officials immediately arrived and seized more than 200 wild birds, including hoopoe and Streptopelia chinensis. But some birds were hard to identify because they had been skinned.

The activists found poaching wild birds with net is still rampant in suburban districts of Songjiang and Jinshan. Sixteen activists removed 153 nets on Saturday and saved six trapped birds, the paper reported.
