POLICE are hunting for a gang of men who stabbed two pedestrians on a downtown street yesterday evening, including one they quickly realized was the wrong target.

According to witnesses, the mistaken stabbing occurred on Dingxi Road in Changning District, when the gang with knives rushed to a man standing in front of a Tesco supermarket. A witness surnamed Li said the group said nothing to the man but stabbed him in the hand, causing him to bleed and faint.

After the victim fell, the gang leader shouted, "You stabbed the wrong man! It was not him!" witnesses said.

The gang then rushed to a nearby spot to stab another man. Both victims were sent to a nearby hospital and were reported in stable condition.

Changning police said a debt dispute apparently spurred the incident, with the gang specifically targeting the second victim.
