EMPLOYERS must pay 200 yuan (US$31) as a monthly subsidy to staff if they work outdoors in temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius or indoors above 33 degrees.

Employers must also supply cold beverages to workers on hot days to help protect their health, said the Shanghai government. The new rule applies to all enterprises - state-owned, jointly-funded and private.
