Man on trial for killing ex-flame

A MAN went on trial yesterday at the Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People's Court for allegedly murdering his ex-girlfriend after intercourse.

On December 7 last year, the 23-year-old man surnamed Yan asked his ex-girlfriend surnamed Chen, 21, to meet in a room at the Pretty House Hotel on Guangxi Road S., the court was told. The two fell in love in 2006 and broke up in 2009. After having sex with Chen at the hotel, Yan demanded that they resume their affair but was rejected. He then strangled Chen to death. After the killing, Yan drank a bottle of pesticide and set a bedsheet alight in a suicide bid. He was saved by firefighters later.
