DOUBLE bassist Eddie Gomez, considered one of the jazz greats, will perform with his trio of pianist Stefan Karlsson and drummer Jimmy Cobb, joined by jazz trumpeter Li Xiaochuan at the JZ Club next Tuesday and Wednesday.
Grammy award-winning Gomez has worked with Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Bill Evans, Gerry Mulligan and Benny Goodman. He has made numerous recordings and composes for film and television.
Born in 1944 in Puerto Rico, he moved with his family to New York, studied music and graduated from Julliard in 1963.
In 1966, Gomez was noticed by Bill Evans and joined the Bill Evans Trio. After 11 years with the trio performing internationally and making recordings, he left to explore new territory.
He now tours with his own trio formed in 1992, including Karlsson and Cobb. Trumpeter Li Xiaochuan is considered one of China's leading jazz trumpeters.
