CHINA Mobile Ltd yesterday said Chairman Wang Jianzhou retired and was replaced by Xi Guohua.

The telco made the announcement in a regulatory filing to the Hong Kong stock exchange. Xi, 60, was named an executive director and vice chairman of the listed company in July.

Wang has overseen operations at China Mobile since joining the telco in 2004 from smaller rival China United Telecommunications Corp. Xi is a former vice minister at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
