Deadly tornado hits Guangdong

A FEROCIOUS tornado swept through 384 villages in Zhanjiang of the southern province of Guangdong from Thursday to early yesterday morning, killing one person. Some 110 others were injured and 20 more people are still missing.

The tornado touched down in Guangdong on Thursday afternoon, accompanied by a hurricane, thunderstorms and hailstones. The largest chunk of hail weighed 35 kilograms. Eight fishing vessels were swamped, and the hail damaged crops and vegetables, toppled trees and took roofs off houses. In Leizhou, seven people were sent to hospital after being hit by hailstones.
