Hunan storm kills 7, injures 207

AUTHORITIES in Hunan Province yesterday confirmed that a tornado, packing winds with speeds in excess of 23 meters per second, swept Hengyang and Hengnan counties on Wednesday night, killing seven people and leaving 207 others injured.

The tornado toppled 2,430 houses, including 1,800 villagers鈥?residences, leaving 700 families homeless. Of the injured, about 20 were poisoned by chemical leaks at a caustic soda factory in Hengyang that was hit by the storm.
