Investigation into deputy governor

THE deputy governor of east China’s Jiangsu Province is under investigation for suspected severe disciplinary violations, the Party’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said yesterday.

Li Yunfeng, 59, who has worked for the provincial Party committee for nearly 30 years, became deputy secretary general of the Party committee in 1997 along with Zhao Shaolin, who was made secretary general the following year.

Li took over when Zhao retired in 2006 and five years later was promoted to deputy governor.

Zhao was put under disciplinary investigation in 2014 and it is alleged he organized cliques and corrupt cadres, and sought benefits for himself and others. He was expelled from Party in 2015 over suspicions he had offered bribes.

Li is the third Jiangsu official to be investigated this month.

On May 16, it was announced that Ma Bangqin, former associate counsel in Jiangsu government’s general office, was being investigated for alleged disciplinary violations.

Four days later, Xinhua Daily said Li Xiaoping, former director of Jiangsu Taxation Bureau, was facing a similar investigation.
