China arrests, probes five former local officials

The Anhui Provincial People's Procuratorate in central China has announced the arrest of Jiang Changsheng, former head of the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Suzhou Municipal Committee.

Jiang is suspected of bribery, according to a government statement issued on Monday. The Anhui prosecuting authorities are also investigating Hui Zhigang, former vice general manager of the state-owned iron and steel giant Ma Steel, for the same crime.

Qinghai prosecuting authorities in northwest China are investigating Zhu Jianping, former deputy head of CPC committee in the provincial State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, and Yu Xiaoming, former director of the provincial energy bureau, for suspected bribery. Yu was also accused of holding huge wealth from unidentified sources, which is a crime for Chinese officials.

Zhao Changsheng, a senior municipal political advisor in central China's Hubei Province is also being investigated for suspected abuse of power and bribery taking, according to the statement.
