Xi’s US$82m aid pledge
CHINA has pledged 500 million yuan (US$82 million) in aid to help fight Ebola in the three West African countries at the heart of the crisis.
The foreign ministry said President Xi Jinping made the announcement in a meeting with the visiting president of Tanzania yesterday.
The money will be used for emergency goods, to set up a treatment center in Liberia, and to send nearly 200 Chinese medical staff and quarantine experts to Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
China has also contributed aid to the World Food Program and World Health Organization.
