Vietnamese hand over casino fugitive

VIETNAMESE police transferred a Chinese suspect to their Chinese counterpart yesterday at Noi Bai International Airport.
This is the first important achievement of the Joint Operation Two on Capturing Escaped Suspects between China and Vietnam’s public security ministries.
The male suspect, surnamed Zhou, was born in 1969 in Wenzhou, Zhejiang province.
Zhou is wanted by the Chinese authorities on suspicion of operating a casino.
In 2011, Zhou, together with accomplices, set up an online gambling site using capital of 400 billion yuan (US$61.77 billion), making a profit of 580 million yuan.
Zhou later fled abroad. In 2014, the International Criminal Police Organization issued a red notice for Zhou.
In 2015, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security sent Vietnam a request for Zhou’s arrest.
Coordinating with the Chinese police liaison office in Vietnam, Hanoi Police Department successfully arrested Zhou at a restaurant in the city in March 2016. During the Joint Operation One on Capturing Escaped Suspects between China and Vietnam from November 2014 to July 2015, the two sides arrested 47 escaped suspects.
“Arresting escaped suspects is a cooperation area between the two sides,” said Zhao Wanpeng, a Chinese police counselor in Vietnam.
“I believe that with the efforts of both sides’ police forces, this year, the results of the cooperation will be better than last year.”
