Tian'anmen Square decoration completed ahead of V-Day parade

FLORAL and lighting decorations at Beijing's downtown Tian'anmen Square have been completed ahead of the celebration for the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII.

Li Jining, spokesman with the Beijing Flowers and Trees Company that arranged the parterre, said lighting equipment and pipelines have been installed. Maintenance workers will take care of the parterre and replace flower pots if needed.

Two Great Wall-shaped floral decorations have been established on the Tian'anmen Square, the site of a military parade due to be attended by Chinese and foreign troops next week. Smaller-scale floral decorations have been put in place along the Chang'an Avenue, a major thoroughfare through Beijing.

The decorations will remain on show for a month following the parade and last until the National Day on Oct. 1.

China has a series of events planned in the run-up to the 70th anniversary of the end of WWII, culminating in a military parade on Sept. 3 in Beijing.
