Sichuan’s ex-political adviser prosecuted for graft
THE former top political adviser in southwest China’s Sichuan Province has been prosecuted for taking bribes, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate said yesterday.
Prosecutors said Li Chongxi, erstwhile chairman of the Sichuan provincial committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, took advantage of his various posts to seek profit for others and illegally accepted a huge amount of funds and property.
The people’s procuratorate of Nanchang, east China’s Jiangxi Province, filed the charges with the city’s intermediate people’s court after prosecutors completed an investigation, the SPP said in a statement.
Prosecutors announced their investigation into Li’s case in September 2014, when he was removed from his post and expelled from the Communist Party of China.
Meanwhile, a former city mayor in southwest China’s Guizhou Province stood trial on Thursday on graft charges.
Prosecutors said Hong Jinzhou, ex-mayor of Kaili, accepted more than 40 million yuan (US$6.5 million) in bribes between 1997 and 2013.
He was also charged with being unable to account for the sources of 31 million yuan worth of property, the Guiyang Intermediate People’s Court said.
Hong also served as a deputy county government head, a director of economic development and industrial park zones, and deputy head of Qiandongnan prefectural government during the period.
In another case, Shu Xi, the former Communist Party boss of Hongjiang, a city in central China’s Hunan Province, stood trial on Monday and Tuesday at a court in Hunan.
He was accused of taking bribes totaling 7.7 million yuan between 2005 and 2013, and holding property worth 18 million yuan with unidentified sources.
The courts did not issue verdicts in the Hong or Shu cases.
