Naked newborn baby found in trash, dies before help arrives

A NAKED newborn boy found abandoned inside a garbage station and exposed to the predawn cold in suburban Beijing yesterday morning died before paramedics arrived, the Beijing News reported.
The boy was discovered by a villager about 7am yesterday. The infant was still alive and struggling in a bunch of garbage in front of a public toilet at the Dagezhuang Village of Beijing’s Tongzhou District.
The lows in Beijing in recent days have been only slightly above 0 degrees Celsius.
Surveillance video showed the baby was dumped about 5am, police said, but the dim light kept them from getting a good look at the person’s face. They are investigating.
“At first, I thought it was a doll, which looked pink all over its body,” the person who found the baby, surnamed Sun, told the newspaper. Then she realized it was a baby, the report said.
She said the baby started kicking his legs.
The baby was abandoned was a transfer site for garbage transport, it's reported.
The newspaper said a photo provided by witnesses showed the baby had bruises on his forehead and blood was streaming from his mouth.
The photo also showed his umbilical cord, about 18 centimeters long, still attached to his abdomen.
Sun said the infant appeared to weigh about 3.5 kilograms.
