Missing ‘boy’ returns home after 16 years
A man from northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has been reunited with his family after going missing 16 years ago, a news website claimed yesterday.
According to zjol.com.cn, the man, named Adiljan, claimed he was abducted from his home in the Kashgar Prefecture of Xinjiang in July 1999 when he was just 11.
He was taken to the city of Wenzhou in Zhejiang and forced into a life of crime by his captors, the website claimed.
Some time later, he escaped, but because he didn’t have an ID card he couldn’t return home, it said.
He therefore settled in Wenzhou and made a living working on construction sites, it claimed.
Last month, he got into a quarrel with another man in Wenzhou and was taken into custody, it said.
After explaining what had happened to him, police began an investigation, the results of which supported his story, it reported.
Adiljan was reunited with his father Kurbanjan and aunt in Wenzhou on Tuesday, the website said.
The father, who divorced Adiljan’s mother before he went missing, said that when the boy disappeared the family assumed he was just staying with a friend.
Several months later they reported the matter to police, the website claimed.
