Man ‘with grudge’ held over tea carton fatal poisoning
A MAN was held this morning after one person died and others were left seriously ill in Guangdong Province after drinking cartons of tea that had been injected with poison.
The 44-year-old, surnamed Guan, is alleged to have told police that he injected rat poison into cartons because he had a grudge against society, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.
Poison was reported to have been injected into cartons of Wang Lao Ji herbal tea in four convenience stores on Chuangye Road in Dongguan.
One customer who drank the tea died, while four were left ill.
Two of the injured were reportedly still in a coma this afternoon, while the other two were out of danger, said officials.
According to the newspaper, Xu Li and her younger brother Xu Chaoye felt ill after drinking tea they bought from a convenience store and went to a hospital yesterday afternoon.
Couple Mo Jianqi and Yin Guiliang who drank tea bought in another store felt dizzy and nauseous and sought medical treatment yesterday evening.
A man was found dead near a bus stop with an opened carton of the herbal tea beside him.
