Man mows down pedestrians in Hubei, killing 1 and injuring 18 others
A man killed one person and injured at least 18 others when he deliberately ran them over this morning in Fang County, Hubei Province, Seven of the injured were sent to the brain surgery department, Beijing News reported.
A witness reportedly told the media the driver was not drunk and that he was intentionally running over pedestrians.
Police have arrested the man and have him in custody as they continue their investigation.
The county government said they believe the man was taking out a grudge against society, according to the report.
By this noon, one of the victims was confirmed dead and 18 others were still being treated at hospital with some feared to be critically injured.
A source close to the local government reportedly told the newspaper that the man, identified by police as Deng Zhongkun, 30, killed a person at home about 6am today and alerted police himself. He lost control of his mind when waiting for police to come and rushed to the street with a knife to hack around, injuring some pedestrians. He then forced a sedan driver to stop, hijacked the car and started the road rampage, the source reportedly said.
