Man executed for attempted rape, murder of girl, 16
A man was executed yesterday in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province for the murder of a 16-year-old girl, the Supreme People’s Court said.
Bai Yunjiang was found guilty last June at the Jiamusi Intermediate People’s Court of killing teenager Hu Yixuan after trying to rape her.
His wife and accomplice, Tan Beibei, is serving a life sentence for the same crime. She was given a lighter sentence on the grounds she was expecting a baby at the time of the homicide.
On July 24, 2013, Tan, who was eight months’ pregnant, lured Hu to her home by feigning stomach pains and asking the girl for help.
Once there, the couple drugged Hu by spiking a yoghurt drink with the sedative Clonazepam. Bai then attempted to rape her, but did not go through with the assault.
Fearing the girl would report the incident to the police, the husband and wife suffocated the girl and buried her body in a local field.
Tan said in court that she offered to find a young girl for her husband to rape after he learned of her multiple infidelities.
The couple appealed their sentences, but they were upheld at the Higher People’s Court of Heilongjiang in November.
Tan’s baby was born by cesarean section on August 6 last year. The boy is now living at a welfare center after relatives refused to raise him.
