‘Living’ biographies
THE Buddhist Association of China has published biographical details of the more than 1,300 living Buddhas in the Chinese mainland to help followers check their authenticity.
The information, which is available at Chinabuddhism.com.cn, sara.gov.cn and tibet.cn, is viewed about 98,000 times a day, the group said.
The aim of the log is to “safeguard the rights and interests of Tibetan Buddhists and also increase public understanding about living Buddhas,” said Drukhang Thubten Khedrup, its vice president.
The newest additions to the list are 441 “verified” living Buddhas, mostly from Sichuan Province.
