Lawmaker taken by military procuratorate

A former lawmaker in Liaoning Province suspected of being linked to the case of Xu Caihou, former vice chairman of the Central Military Commission, was taken for questioning by the military procuratorate, Caijing Magazine reported yesterday.

Wang Chuncheng, 51, was reported to have commercial interests with Xu’s wife and once presented property in Hainan Province to Xu’s family, according to the magazine.

Xu Caihou, the retired vice chairman of the powerful Central Military Commission, was expelled from the Party last month and will be court-martialed on corruption charges.

Wang was a former deputy to the National People’s Congress and head of the Chuncheng Industry & Trade Group Co Ltd. His car in Beijing had a military car plate and his driver was an armed policeman, according to the report.

He was taken away by military procuratorate in April and the case has since been handed over to the procuratorate in a city which was not identified, it reported.

Wang was reported to have got to know Xu through an incident when his son beat a man to death at a bar in Fuxin, in Liaoning.His son was not jailed over the incident. He resigned as a deputy to the NPC in April, due to misconduct.
