Journalists’ body exposes false reports

An investigation by the All-China Journalists’ Association has found that three Chinese publications carried five stories that turned out to be false.
It launched the investigation after tip-offs from the public.
On September 29 last year, China Business Journal said the National Development and Reform Commission’s evaluation report on making the southern island of Hainan an international tourist destination had failed to pass an expert review.
The assocation found no evidence the NDRC had organized experts to review the report.
Three articles in the Southern Weekly about alleged misconduct at Mianyang People’s Hospital in southwest China’s Sichuan Province, including equipping a healthy person with a pacemaker and purchasing outdated medical devices at high prices, were untrue, the association said. The reports were published in May 2013 and February 2014.
A story in China Chan Jing News in November about a housing program in north China’s Hebei Province contained fabricated sources and intentionally distorted statements, it said.
