Joint replacement surgeries fail to meet demand

China conducted about 300,000 artificial joint replacement surgeries last year, meeting only 10 percent of demand.
In the United States, there are more than 2 million artificial joint replacement surgeries a year, greatly improving people’s life quality, said officials from Shanghai MicroPort Medical (Group) Co.
According to the World Health Organization, more than 50 percent of people over 50 years old have joint problems and the percentage rises to 80 percent among people over 55 years old. Hip and knee joint problems are the most prevalent, it said.
