Family sue Canadian over Great Wall death

Relatives of a woman who died after she was accidently knocked over on the Great Wall yesterday filed a lawsuit against the Canadian woman involved.

Huairou District People’s Court in Beijing has accepted the case in which the family is asking for compensation and also for the woman to be prevented from leaving the country, according to yesterday’s Beijing News.

The accident happened around 11am last Wednesday when 70-year-old Cui from Jiamusi in northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province collided with the Canadian who was coming down steps at the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, according to the newspaper.

A relative told its reporter: “She (the foreigner) walked down the steps very quickly. Cui was not holding the handrail and got knocked down.”

Police told the family there was no criminal case to answer and suggested they opt for civil action, the newspaper said.
